Mercury was not really religion as such. The Ancient Greeks who worshipped Zeus, Apollo etc believed Mercury was their Winged Messenger (this was influenced by the Roman occupation).
Mercury is also depicted as The Winged Messenger in the Planet Suite.

Oh see ok, that's where I got the name Hermes from! You ever see Disney's Hercules? The winged messenger in that movie's named Hermes. LOL!
