Tree Books
As mentioned in the e-books section we're widening this thread to include all our reading habits. Tree books are just that paper books, your usual book anything basically not an electronic book.
Come on all you tree book readers, what's the last thing you read?

Don't read that plot summary if you ever plan on reading the book though! It's a fun quick entertaining read. It's written by Seth Graham-Smith, the same guy who did Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (no, I haven't read that one yet, but it's waiting for me on my Kindle). I think it came out sometime last year.

Re: Tree Books
I'm about 1/4 of the way through the first Alex Cross book, Along Came a Spider by James Patterson. As I read this, I cannot picture anyone else except for Idris Elba playing Cross.
Re: Tree Books
When I read the novel I pictured a guy in his thirties as Alex Cross. When they made the movie they put Morgan Freeman a guy too old in my mind for the role despite being a fantastic actor. At the time, it was quite a while ago, I pictured Denzil Washington.
Great book, read loads of James Patterson but eventually he went a bit loopy for me.

Re: Tree Books
Yeah I'll find the books name but there are plenty of Alex Cross to read and Lincoln Rhyme (Jeffrey Deaver).
It had wings in the title, kinda read like he's done a tons of drugs and got typing.

Re: Tree Books
My husband runs a book review site. He just does genre fiction (horror, fantasy,sci-fi), and I am currently reading one of the books a publisher sent him as it wasnt really his thing. Its called Queen of Kings, by Maria Dahvana Headley. Its okay I suppose - very similar to Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice, in that Cleopatra makes a deal with an ancient god after the death of Anthony, and basically becomes a vampire so she can wreak her revenge on Octavius. If you are an Anne Rice fan, you will like, but its a bit bland for me. I like my vampires to be real creatures of darkness, soulless predators. I suppose I should be grateful she doesn't sparkle.
Once I have that done, I am going back to Songs Of Fire and Ice. I started re-reading the old ones when the TV show Game Of Thrones (which is bloody brilliant by the way - cant wait for the next season) came out. The latest one has just come out so I wanted a refresher before I read it.

Like you Madnad I like my vamps dark. I did read Lestat by her which was great but by far the best Anne Rice novel which doesn't include ... vamps !
It's called Servant Of The Bones. I copied and pasted the blurb, I have read this 3 times. It's not new either so ignore that bit.

SERVANT OF THE BONES is Anne Rice's new electrifying novel, with a hero as mesmerising, seductive and ambivalent as the vampire Lestat. Azriel is a restless Jewish spirit, born almost 2500 years ago in Babylon, who can be called forth by whoever holds and understands the arcane mystery of the casket of golden bones he is tied to. Caught between heaven and earth, Azriel is forced to bear witness to the long and troubled history of Western civilisation, from the household of an ancient Greek philosopher and the deathbed of Alexander the Great, to the Mongolian Steppes and fourteenth century Strasbourg, where Jews were made scapegoats for the Black Death. And finally in the present, he is summoned to witness and avenge a brutal murder on Fifth Avenue. The dead woman is Esther, step-daughter of Gregory Belkin, fanatical messianic leader of a worldwide cult, the Temple of the Mind. Belkin is known to be the son of Holocaust victims, but he has a secret history which binds Azriel's fate to his. SERVANT OF THE BONES is as rich and terrifying, as sensual and violent as any novel by Anne Rice - an enthralling epic which conjures up more than two thousand years of Jewish history and penetrates the unfolding mysteries of evil, redemption, life and death.
